The Government of Maharashtra issued a significant Government Resolution (GR) on March 27, 2026, updating the compensation rules for livestock lost due to natural disasters (floods, heavy rains, lightning, etc.). Livestock & Disaster Compensation


ЁЯУв Key Policy Changes

The state has removed several previous restrictions to ensure more farmers receive aid:

  • No “Number of Animals” Limit: Previously, compensation was capped at 3 large animals or 6 small animals. Now, compensation will be provided for all deceased or missing animals.

  • No Landholding Limit: Both small-scale and large-scale farmers are now equally eligible for compensation.

  • Poultry Expansion: The previous limit of 100 birds for poultry farmers has been removed. Compensation is now applicable to the entire lost flock.

The following rates are applicable for losses due to natural calamities:

ЁЯУЭ Eligibility & Required Documentation

To claim these benefits, the animal must have been registered in one of the following:

  1. Bharat Pashudhan App or the 21st Livestock Census.

  2. Government Vaccination Records.

  3. Insurance Company Records.

Necessary Documents for the Claim:

  • Post-Mortem Report: Must be conducted by a government veterinary doctor.

  • Panchnama: A formal report signed by the local Talathi, Gram Sevak, or Livestock Development Officer.

  • Bank Details & Aadhaar: For Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into your account. Livestock & Disaster Compensation

  • Witness Statement: If the animal was washed away in a flood, a statement from the Sarpanch or Police Patil is required.


тЪая╕П Important Exclusions

  • Double Benefit Prohibited: If you have already received an insurance claim from a private or government insurance company for the same animal, you are not eligible for this state government compensation.

  • Natural Death: This scheme only covers deaths caused by natural disasters (lightning, floods, cyclones), not deaths due to disease or old age.
